The Importance of Head Gaskets

The simplest parts of an engine are its gaskets that fit snugly between metal parts. Though they do not have any moving parts and are made by a stamping machine, they are one of the most critical components of an engine. From the very first moment an engine is started, it begins to wear out due to stress and friction. To protect engines, lubricants are added to allow metals to move against each other. Without the lubricants, heat would build up between the metals causing them to melt and weld to each other freezing the engine.

When I think of suspension systems I picture thick metal springs that compensate for my rough driving; that or the suspension on my mountain bike that creates for a smooth ride. However, not all suspension springs are solid metal. Air springs, often referred to as air bags, can take the place of steel springs in vehicle suspension systems. The pneumatic spring is an inflatable balloon-like device. I liken it to a rubber propane tank in appearance. Although if propane tanks were used to support cars I imagine the results would be disastrous.

I’ve lived and stayed at a number of apartments and dorms during my college career. Every place seemed to have different degrees of nose reduction. I’ve gone from hearing every word my neighbors speak to not hearing a peep from the mysteriously large party next door. I’ve always wondered what is it that causes these extreme differences. Are walls at the various apartments around the periphery of my old college campus so unique from one another? Are the builders using different materials, wall thickness and isolation? Soundproofing in Music Halls

In my last semester of college I was required to take a music class in order to fulfill all of the university’s requirements. This was the first class I had ever taken in the performing arts center building so I didn’t really know what to expect. In this facility there were many practicing rooms for musicians as well as dance halls, classrooms and a theater. Needless to say there was a lot of noise constantly being produced from this building. Our classroom was right across the hall from various practice rooms for students to come and play their instruments to prepare music. These are very small rooms about the same size as a single room bathroom. As I walked past these rooms on the way to my class room the first day I was worried that this might be an issue inside the classroom and cause many disruptions. As class began I was surprised not to hear any loud sound interruptions. The teacher told us not to worry because each of those practice rooms was equipped with soundproofing systems.

Today large cities are becoming more and more populated with businesses, venues, and residential buildings popping up everywhere in them. Downtown is the most popular spot of any city and many people want to live in the middle of all the action. Now we all know that running through all major cities are many highway systems branching out in many directions and meeting all in the middle. Because of this some sound barriers are placed along the edges of the highway to help cut down on loud annoying highway noises that occur at all hours of the day. The barriers are made out of concrete because they have to be durable incase a car should happen to crash into one. How they work is by trying to keep the noise in one specific area. Sound barriers do not absorb sound nor can they get rid of it, they simply just help cut down on the spreading of the sounds to other areas.
