Mildew, and Mold, and Moisture! Oh, My!
Ventilation fans, also known as exhaust fans, help circulate the air inside a home. This helps keep a house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Fans accomplish this by circulating warm/cool air. Ventilation fans also help prevent the growth of mildew and mold in places such as attics or bathrooms. Circulating air disperses the moisture in small enclosed spaces. Varies types of ventilation fans are available, including roof ventilation, exterior-mounted, combination ventilation and in-line ventilation fans.
It is very crucial to have a good ventilation fan in the upstairs bathroom of the Platypus Manor (my house). Four guys share the bathroom so it is in constant use. Luckily we all wake up at respectively different times in the morning, so nobody is waiting for their turn to shower before work. However, we do run into problems if we decided to go out for a night on the town. Luckily our hot water heater can hold up, but back-to-back showers create a lot of moisture.
We have to make sure the fan on to circulate the air so water doesn’t stick to the walls and ceiling. Without the fan, water drips down and annoys the next bathroom user. It reminds me of a glass containing a tasty beverage on a hot day. Water appears on the outside of a glass due to condensation. It’s practically the same thing but on the ceiling. Also, I’ve already noticed mold growing on the ceiling due to poor air circulation. I’ve already scrubbed the mold off the shower once; I don’t want to do it again.
