Stainless steel is a metal alloy valued for its strength and resistance to corrosion and contamination, a trait particularly valuable in the medical industry. A tube, being the hollow, cylindrical form that it is, is also very valuable to the medical industry for the same reason why a tube is valuable for any other industry— to transport fluids from one location to another. Such frequent benefactors of the stainless steel tube include the automotive, dental, petrochemical and semiconductor industries, in which the stainless steel tube is employed in a variety of ways, ranging from syringes and needles, as in the medical industry, to hydraulic systems, fuel lines and engines.

Depending on its intended application, a stainless steel tube can be manufactured in a variety of ways, including welding, metal spinning and extrusion— of which is the most common of the three. Extrusion is a process which involves pushing a solid billet through a piercing rod, creating the tube’s hollow, seamless composition.

Without the stainless steel tube, the entire infrastructure of our society would be significantly altered— there’s no denying it— so I take this opportunity to make a brief shout-out to the great and mighty stainless steel tube.
