Entering a Steel Tank
Getting in and out of large metallic vessels may seem like an overwhelming task, especially when that vessel or tank is bigger then a house, which is common. That is why manways were crafted, and
stainless steel manways so that the opening will be as well protected and secure as the rest of the tank.
The size, shape and style of manways often depend on the application the stainless steel tank is being utilized for. An example would be a stainless steel silo, which is the most common type of silo around because it is a tank that is often found out of doors and needs to resist a lot of extreme weather conditions without letting whatever is being stored within it be affected. Silos are often designed with a couple manways of varying size, since some will be used for human access, others for transporting grain or other agricultural products into the silo and others for letting the substance out when the time comes. So a grain like wheat will be deposited by way of heavy duty farming equipment into the top of a silo through a large manway, while a manway on the bottom can be opened when draining the wheat into a truck tank for transport. A smaller one on the side will allow human access if the need arises. Other examples of tanks that need manways for various reasons include water tanks, storage tanks and gas tanks, which are used in industries like chemical processing, agriculture and water treatment facilities.
