Common Uses For Rare Earth Magnets

When you hear the word rare you think of something that is not common, such as a rare piece of jewelry, a prized historic painting or an old record of a famous band. In most cases the word rare means unique, one of a kind and, typically, expensive. When it comes to the world of magnets however,

Large rare earth magnets serve a variety of purposes, and aren’t quite as rare as their name makes them out to be. They can be used in an automotive setting in the oil filters to filter metal chips out of oil. Picking up stray nails, screws, and other potentially harmful items on the floor is also a use of these magnets. These magnets can even work as stud finders for the wall.

People have used them to hold homemade banners to their cars during celebrations or parades. Another practical use for these types of magnets is to hold name tags in place without using a pin or tape. The magnet allows you to be identified without harming the fabric of your clothing.

In the kitchen, rare earth magnets can be used to hold spice racks to the side of your fridge. Many people like to hang magnets on their fridge for decorative purposes, but if you have a slightly larger load that needs to be displayed, a rare earth magnet may be your best bet. They are powerful and able to hold more weight than typical magnets.

As decorative purposes, rare earth magnets can be used in the creation of magnetic jewelry, such as magnetic bracelets and necklaces. They are sometimes used as the jewelry themselves, but they also have a purpose as a magnetic clasp for the jewelry.

Perhaps a better name for them would be useful earth magnets, or common earth magnets, since they are used all across the board. Rare does have a nice ring to it though, doesn’t it?
