The Advantages of Plastic Linear Bearings

Linear Roller Bearings

The type of material chosen for a product of any kind is a big decision, which is a concept that can be applied in industrial, commercial and residential settings. For example, when I am buying a dress for myself, I know not to be metallic looking fabric because I sweat right through it and

Plastic linear bearings are not as well as their metallic counterparts, such as Teflon, graphite and stainless steel. However, they do have a number of positive characteristics that make them very attractive for many machining applications that require sturdy and static free linear bearings. One trait is that plastic is significantly lighter then every metal used to make linear ball bearings and linear roller bearings, as well as other bearing models. The lighter the material the less likely it will be to nick and break as well as making it easier to move.

Other plastic benefits include the fact that they are easily moldable, which means they are the perfect candidate for new linear bearing designs. It is also a material that naturally prohibits the amount of noise and vibration created by linear bearings, something metallic substances cannot do without additional treatments and therefore more expense. The friction aspect is also a big deal, since metallic linear bearings wear down faster because they create so much friction, while most plastic materials do not. That means plastic linear bearings last longer without requiring extra treatments after or during production.
